The National Urban League, the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture and State Farm have partnered to create a supplement to the Project Ready 2.0 Curriculum to address the lack of a culturally relevant and historically accurate curriculum on the Black urban experience in America, and to empower youth with positive images of themselves as people who have impacted the social, economic, political, and cultural development of this nation, both yesterday and today.
Our mission is to spark in urban youth the curiosity to increase their knowledge of self community while investigating and documenting the history of the National Urban League and the Affiliate Movement and The Great Migration.
The Urban League’s history is part of the chronicle of race relations in 20th century America. It is the untold story of the visionary men and women, Black and white, staff and volunteers, who have worked toward a common goal to change America for the better.
Students will have the opportunity to investigate how generations before them left a legacy through various policies and practices, and what those precedents has on the African American condition over the years. In turn, students will think about the type of legacy they hope to leave behind. Importantly, they will explore how to use the legacy of those who struggled for freedom in the past and those who continue on in the Movement today to inspire them, as we continue to work advancing the social, economical, political, and cultural landscape in the United States.
